Terence Coventry
Recent Sculpture and Works on Paper
15th June - 24th July 2015
One of the gallery’s most popular and best-selling artists, this is Terence Coventry's fourth solo show at Gallery Pangolin.
A full-time sculptor for many years, Coventry no longer feels the need to take an animal or bird as his starting point and instead takes inspiration from arrangements of pure form which he then works into his chosen subject. His passionate connection to birds and animals remains nonetheless, and the way in which he deftly transforms an assemblage of shapes into a familiar beast or body is all part of the magic of his work.
Many recent sculptures examine the ancient relationship between Man and Nature, combining human figures with animals or birds and expressing a joyful sense of exhilaration and vitality.
Other highlights of the show include ‘Swallow Brooch‘ and ‘Spinning Piece Pendant’, Coventry’s first forays into wearable sculpture, and ‘Corten Owl III’, a new work fabricated in corten steel which perfectly captures the concentration of a powerful predator poised for flight.
