"Bounce is very typical of my work, I am fascinated by all kinds of materials, I found this metal cloth in the late 80's in a scrapyard in Cork. Back then I was allowed to rummage through everything when the workers were at lunch and I could take whatever I wanted. Nowadays that is impossible due to health and safety regulations.

Apple began making computers in Cork in the 80's and sent their scrap to this local yard. I'm convinced that this metal fabric came from them as I have not been able to source it.

I tend to hoard materials that I like until I have the right idea for them, sometimes that takes years. The cocoon like form is made of copper mesh that I heated with a propane blowtorch, then wrapped in aluminium wire.

The title 'Bounce' refers to the way the light bounces off the surface of the metal, it's very similar to the way light bounces off water."
