"Rhino is one of a series of self portraits. In this body of work I am exploring what the self means in contemporary western society. Using myself as the subject, the drawing style emphasises surface and technique rather than expressive mark-making. This acts in stark contrast to the subject matter, in this case a post-operative image, one day after a rhinoplasty, which is intentionally emotive or challenging."
